A GOOD TRIBUTE TO OUR VIETNAM VETERANS

While I am not a Mel Gibson fan (and hate the thought of a foreigner playing the leed role), I have to admit that this film is not just a great Vietnam War film, it is simply a great war film, period.

It also manages to show the enemy in an appropriate light. For in order to have a great victory, you must have fought a worthy opponent. To this end, I thought the portrayal of the NVA commanding officer was an excellent touch.

But for me, the hardest hitting moments were the letters being received by the wives of the recently fallen soldiers. While admittedly a bit hollywoodized, it was a great reminder of those families of soldiers, airmen and sailors who live in fear and dread every ringing of the phone or knocking of the door.

We Were Soldiers

The acting is superb in this movie. The screenplay follows what occurred in the early days of the Vietnam war. Many other units were involved in this conflict but the writers did present most of them in action. The film has great visual effects and great action shots. The character development is actually quite good. Fans of Mel Gibson should appreciate his representation of the main character. The fear and anticipation that the military wives experienced in this movie portrays their emotions splendidly. Great movie, one that will take you on a ride of different emotions. Great Movie even better on HD-DVD

HD DVD is encoded in High Definition 1080p format. The movie its sharpness, and eye-popping colors are just stunning. Black levels are inky with excellent grey shadow detail, and contrasts are deep. The movie itself is great and if you are already a fan of the DVD the HD DVD is what you want. One problem with HD is that with the HD/Blu Ray debate some stores are not stocking them until there is a clear winner. Not to worry, the store below has hundreds of HD DVDs broken down by genre:

We Were Soldiers, Awesome HD Movie

The picture quality jumps out at you thru my HD front projector. The DD audio completes the cinema at home experience. Its to bad HD-DVD lost the format war.

Should be manditory watching in History Class!

Being a Viet Nam veteran (radio operator forward air control)I found this movie to be far more accurate than any of the other Viet Nam genre movies. Too accurate in fact difficult to watch at times. The reason for the this purchase is that I have the VHS verision and I was affraid of wearing it out.

We haven't looked at the movie yet, beacause I got it for my husband for Father's Day. This is a movie he is obsessed with, and he asked for it. Came in a timely manner.
