Return to the Wild, Wild, West. Well, sort of...

Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: TRC

Wild Arms Alter Code F, published by AgeTech, for the Playstation 2, PS2, is a great remake of the classic Wild Arms for the original Playstation 1 system or PSX. There have been some major updates to this game.

Filgaia, the planet, is dying. The main characters Rudy, Jack and Cecilia must find out why. The planet started dying 1,000 years ago after the Great War. You must find a race of people called the Elw before it is too late to stop the demons from taking over Filgaia.

Graphics – They have been overhauled from 2D top down to full 3D environments. With the 3D upgrade it adds a whole new dimension to the puzzles in this game, 8/10

Sound – The "wild west" feel to the music in this game truly sets Wild Arms Alter Code F apart from all the Sci-Fi RPGs out there. 9/10

Gameplay – On the plus side, the puzzles in this game are a lot more difficult.
One huge minus is that you have to search the world map for your new towns, dungeons and treasures. Also, they give you a handy dandy map that shows you where to start searching. 7/10

Battle System – Turn Based similar to Lufia and Lufia 2 from the SNES. 7/10

If you are looking for a game to tie you over until Final Fantasy XII hits the U.S. this is it.

Overall I give this unique game an 8/10

Great Role Playing Game!

I bought Wildarms Alter Code F three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the gameplay. I've played at the Games in this series and must say that this is one of the better one. Its control were simple, and the storyline was incredible just like the other games in the series. The games featured approximately 32 hours of gameplay with new sidequests, arsenals, and guardians. My only complaint is that the game's storyline was very similar to the original Wild Arms, and at times the storyline was slow to progress. Overall, I'd recommend the game to any RPG lover.Read full review...

Not what I expected.

The game Wild Arms when originally released on the PSO system was great. I was looking forward to this re-release of the game based on the idea that it was meant to be the same only better with improved graphics and game play. Nothing could be further from the truth. The game moves at an incredibly slow pace to the point that I became annoyed and simply quit playing it. Others may disagree but to me it simply wasn't Wild Arms. I will need to get further into the game before completely suggesting that the game is bad. However based on the first few hours spent playing it simply isn't worth getting. Graphics are improved but the game play is far from great. Even the bonus disc was simply an episode of the series from japan smothered in ads suggesting you buy it and other shows from the same company. Hope this isn't too harsh but spend you money else where unless this guy is really cheap. The price I paid was a good one with a great seller but if it's too high a price stay away from this title. Anything above $20.00 is a total waste.Read full review...

Back to the Rockin' Horse

I love the Wild Arms series. I have beaten 3,4, and 5. All of them have been a great a different experience. So of course I had to play this one. It's a remake of the first one with updated graphics and little added stuff through out the game. It's a turn based game and some fights tend to be kinda annoying. That's old school for ya. It's not that difficult either I suppose. Just level up when needed by fighting random encounters. Which the game has a lot of those. Puzzles are pretty complex too. Actually that the hardest thing about the game. I recommend having some sort of strategy guide to help you through them darn puzzles. Oh plus you can get lost easily if you don't keep track of what's going on in skits and stuff, and it's very important to talk to town folk yeah. The game it takes like 30 hours of so to complete if you don't do too many side quest and stuff of that nature. It's a pretty good game for any rpg fan that like challenging puzzles and cool characters.Read full review...

wild arms alter code f. Excellent game

Great game. The best remake of a game i have seen so far. they left the whole story basically untouched with added puzzles and corrected dialogue to fit more to the story line. Battle system stayed the same with added skills and special moves for the characters. Adding more characters was a great idea. Using the same characters you used to see in the old one but in this one u can actually play with them for a bit. great cinematic sequences for events that didn't have any in the first one. if all my fingers were thumbs i would give it 10 thumbs up.Read full review...

Possibly the greatest re-work ever....

This is a great re-work of the original Playstation game that launched the "Wild Arms" series. With a variety of new puzzles and side stories this 'dual-layer' game boasts more for your dollar than the usual single layer games most of us are used to. Effectively two discs in one.

If you havent played the original then this game is a must have and even if you have offers enough new material to keep you riveted to the console for hours.

Wild Arms Alter Code F

I bought this product as a result of loving the other Wild Arms titles. Although this one to be a little different in context, it is truly a challenge to those that have enjoyed the Wild Arms titles, or have never played this type of game before. A lot of puzzles, story humor, and a lot of hidden battles make this game truly enjoyable for people of all ages. Nothing simpler than this: A remarkable game for the young to the old at heart.Read full review...

A collector's item.

I am excited to set this game on a shelf for years to come. It will look fantastic next to all the other games I wish I had time to play.

Old is New Again

If you liked the original, you will like this one. The graphics are much better. Game play is about the same with a few variations. All in all, I like it.
