Insteon Leverages Value of Obsolete X-10 Products

X-10 home control is an obsolete technology. It was replaced mostly by Insteon, a more reliable and configurable technology, but Insteon seems to lack some of the really cool features of X-10, such as a wide variety of handheld controllers and wireless remote devices. One of my favorite is the "Socket Rocket" lamp control module. I am using one of those in the over-range light in my range hood, and a standard insteon wall plug lamp module to control my kitchen undercounter lighting. I'm also using a small X-10 battery powered motion detector to turn on both the range light and the undercabinet lighting when anyone enters the kitchen area. I'm fortunate enough to still possess several X-10 compatible Insteon lamp modules. This is an example of why I still use X-10 technology combined with my fabulous Insteon installation. After 12 minutes, the X-10 motion detector sends a "lights-off" code to the kitchen lighting. Of course, I can also turn it all on or off from my smartphone. :)Read full review

by TOP CRITICAL REVIEW

Performance slightly degade due to age, but works ok.

It's very old so some components have drifted away from their original values.
This reduces the reception range, but ut is functional.

There are more recent revision but when ordering a used unit, it's an unavoidable gamble.Read full review

TM751 are a vital part of an X-10 system

It was in brand new condition, which I appreciated. Because the TM751 not only transmits data on the power line, but also switches a load plugged into it, it is subject to developing defects. My old one had burned spots on the printed board which resulted in switching the load but not transmitting the data to other control modules. So the TM751 is a vital part of any X-10 system you may configure.Read full review

Used X10 switches are still a cheap and usable alternative to more expensive choices!

X10 has been around for many decades and is sometime unreliable, but in general it works pretty well and the devices are a lot cheaper than other alternatives. Used switches, which are still in good condition, such as these are a great choice, especially if you already have a computer interface to X10 setup and working!

Thanks!

Push buttons preferred over voice commands.

I have been using these things since They were called "X10" and before radio shack even appeared on the scene. getting rid of wires have saved me a lot of time and effort Read full review

Great lighting control

Works great for lighting control. I have 2 different zones in my house, (and nobody listening in like with voice activated automation!).
