La crème de la crème of French courses
French in Action is the most popular University courses in French for good reason. It's thorough, entertaining, and effective. The core of the course consists of 52 videos (about 25 minutes of instruction each) with about 10 mins. developing an on-going story, and the rest of the time having the dialogue clarified by cartoons, television and film clips, drawing, and the wonderful explanations (all in French) of Pierre Capretz.
It's not necessary to buy the videos, which are available online in streaming format, but to throughly learn the lessons, a serious student needs to get the textbook, the audio CDs and the workbooks. I've been using the French in Action approach in self-study now for about three months. When I go to Alliance française meetups in the area, native French speakers are surprised by my rapid progress. I'm convinced this is the best course of study for someone who can't go to France himself.Read full review...

Excellent tool for learning French!
The layout is great. I've used lots of French books in the past and this method surpasses them all. Capretz is hands-down the best!
French in Action
I bought this book as a required text, but it really is an excellent choice. Monsieur Capretz is funny guy, and the sequence of lessons is logical and useful.
If you can commit the time to the study, this is a good method to learn
Very good immersion system of teaching. You need to get the DVDs and workbooks to go along with the textbook.
