For me, Thinner This Year was a wonderful experience that worked!
Thinner This Year was a wonderful experience for me. I approached it as a life-style change and it worked. I was use to the exercising for 45 minutes or more per day, but the diet change was a bigger challenge.
What was nice about the diet change, was the fact that it wasn't about eating smaller portions, but it was about eating the right stuff. For me, I it really came down to what I ate. For example, I eliminated red meats from my diet all together. For the past 8 months, I can count on one hand the times I've eaten red meat. So I ate more fish, chicken and pasta. Next, I added fruits and veggies as a larger percentage of the total diet. In fact, fruits and veggies are about 60-65% of my total diet now. Finally, I increase the water intake to a total of 6-8 bottles per day.
The exercise isn't as tough as it sounds. I simply did some kind of aerobics that increased my heart rate to 65-75% rate max for 45 mins per day/6 days a week. I mostly walked, although it was suggested in the book that walking would not be enough. My walks were between 4-7 miles per day, between 13-17 mins miles.
So it's a combined effort of the exercise along with the being persistent with watching what I ate that allowed me to lose 27 pounds over a period of six months. It's exciting to know that I am now in control of my weight with a plan that I can use the rest of my life.Read full review...

Over 70 and 2 back surgeries makes exercising difficult. My dr wants me to stay strong and active. I practice 3-4 warm ups one day for an hr. And a few strength training moves two days later and alternate like that continuously. No gym work. And don't have a bench. My balance, flexibility and core strength have improved gradually. Have long believed that leading a mostly vegetarian lifestyle is the major key to healthful longevity. Now incorporating that deeper into our daily diets. Great book!!
