Fun Juvenile Movie

It's the same old game, Jumanji! This has a new setting and new penalties. It's fun to watch and see the different problems and the solutions found. The photography is worth seeing.
The characters aren't engaging or even very real. Quarreling kids (or adults) have never been my idea of fun. Their reactions to the chaos are Ok and redemption is achieved. The enemy aliens are more fearsome as ships firing on the house than in person.

Zathura (2006, DVD)

This is a very good movie adaptation from a good book. Minus the two minor curse words, this is a nice family, fun movie. If you like sci-fi, you'll get a luke-warm feeling from this movie but a very heart warming ending. The two young leads are great as the two brothers finally coming together to work out a difficult situation. Mix in the clever Dax Shepard and the beautiful Kristen Stewart, and you have a family favorite. I highly recommend Zathura and give it a "take-it-all-now" rating of 4 out of 5! Great for kids

I bought this movie for my son (age 8). He and his little brother (age 4) love this movie because it's definitely geared towards their age bracket. If you liked "Jumanji", you'll probably like this movie because it has the same essence except it involves outer space instead of 'the jungle'. (Only thing is that Jumanji seemed to have a little more depth in it's tale and better special effects.)
I bought "Zathura" particularly because my son kept requesting it at the store and I found a better deal online. I'd say it's definitely a 'kid movie', and it's a good movie to have as part of your 'kid collection'. My kids are happy with it - so as a parent, so am I!Read full review...

LOVED IT!!!

I have read som many reviews from people who absolutely hated this movie, complaining about the "cheesy special effects" and the actors themselves. My 4 year old son and I love this movie. It's actually one of the few that I can stand watching (sometimes over and over). I think the young actors did a great job of portraying the average sibling rivalry situations in alot of families. The special effects were great, and just another reason why I really liked this movie. The director himself says that he was shying away from all CGI effects that are used in ALL movies now in days, so he could avoid the "video game" effect they leave. The robot costumes and huge Zorgon lizard costumes were actually there on set. My son LOVED the Zorgons and robot!! We even rushed out and bought him the Zathura board game. As far as the language that other people have complained about, I think there are like 3 instances (that I can remember) where some questionable words and phrases are used. My son's reaction? Nothing at all. We don't speak like that in my home therefor he never even noticed the swear words. He didn't bring it up and neither did I. Bottom line: this a great, fun movie that parents and children can watch together and actually enjoy.Read full review...

Zathura

This move was purchesed for my five-year-old son for Christmas. This is definately one of his favorite movies. I think we've watched it almost everyday since he got it. It reminded me of Jumanji almost too much. The whole playing a game, living out the courses of the game until it ends then all the sudden everything is back to normal and no-ones the wiser to what happened except the people who played the game. Great concept and very imaginative but like I said, too much like Jumanji. My son on the other hand prefers Zathura over Jumanji, may-be it just depends on which you've seen first and your individual interests of outer-space vs. earth-bound. All in all, good movie and the guy who plays the astronaut-- very cute.Read full review...

a good movie

The movie is worthwhile watching and is well done. just so you know (cuz personaly i dont usualy like to see movies or situations that have "been done" before) this is exactly like jamunji but a sci-fi version (space instead of a jungle) and it kind of made me wanna re-watch jumunji .... i thought it was an accurate movie ... its about a divorced father who is overwhealemed with work but trying and gets his three children on a schedule, he has two younger sons (approx 6 and 8) and a teenage daughter (who hates to be bothered) .... i liked the movie and recommend watching it, its esspecialy fun for children but even as an adult i enjoyed it.
this is a good movie about a cursed game that once you start the game you have to finish it.Read full review...

A fun ride!

If you liked Jumanji (which I did) you'll like Zathura. Think of it as a space age Jumanji with similar life lessons. The plot is fantastic (of course!) and the action is pretty much non-stop. I became interested in this movie because when it was first released it had been a project for the teams in "The Apprentice". I remember one of the teams spelled the name "Zanthura" which really lost them points! All in all, this is an entertaining movie. Academy Award quality it isn't but if you are looking for a fun couple of hours and you don't want to have to think too hard... this is the ticket!Read full review...

This movie is wild yet charming at the same time with the two lead actors taking the top spot on the bill for this one. This movie is like Jumanji meets Star Wars. Any film being compared to any or all of the Star Wars movies is a hit in the eyes of this movie lover.
