FOUR STAR MOVIE

"XXX" is an action and special effects extravaganza featuring some excellent stunt work not seen since James Bond. I personally really enjoyed this movie. I didn't feel it was a ripoff of 007 as much as it was an homage to the British spy series of films. Vin Diesel was quite effective as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast turned secret agent bolstering a bad attitude and short temper. As an actor, Diesel really carries this role well fitting into his element perfectly. Covered with tattoos, he is known for his most notable one across the back of his nect, that of 3 X's prompting his name of Triple X. There are some fantastic stunts in this movie from a motorbike making incredible jumps (the most exciting of which was from an exploding building's rooftop), to a surfboarding move using a serving tray down some stair handrails, to an incredible snowboarding scene with an impending avalanche bearing down on him. Yes, it is no secret that they were hoping for and intending a new super spy series of films with this, but aside form all of the James Bond comparisons, I really felt it stood on its own and was a very good movie. My only gripe was, what was with that shaggy rug coat he was wearing? lol. This movie also features one of the most "electrifying" night clubs I have ever seen. XXX, Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel is Xander Cage known as X to his friends, and Triple X to his new boss, NSA Agent Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson). Xander is an extreme sports nut and somewhat of a political activist, and doesn't mind doing extreme stunts to make his point. How did he end up working for the NSA? Let's just say that the bit of Corvette abuse you see in the trailers got him a little more attention than usual.

Unlike ever other "some guy becomes a spy" movie I've seen, Xander doesn't get a crash course in agency protocol and spy knowledge. After passing a few "tests" he's just shipped off to Prague and told to gather some info on a group known as Anarchy 99. This is a group of bad guys who would like to topple a few governments all in the name of anarchy, which they call "freedom". Whatever, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that we get to watch Xander kick some butt and play with a few toys.

Speaking of toys, Xander does have gadgets like Bond, but he doesn't seem to need them as much, though he does like to blow things up. He's also got great taste in cars. Another thing he has in common with Bond is women, and just like with the Bond movies we really wish this one was rated R! They do manage to show us a number of thongs though, and for that we were greatly appreciative.

Vin Diesel is perfect in this role, I can't think of anyone better suited for it. The opening sequence in the movie pokes at 007, showing that a guy in a tux isn't always the man for the job. I agree, and there's plenty of room on the big screen for more than one spy hero. Bring on the sequels!"

Excellent Choice

Saw this on Netflix a few years ago. Still one of my favorites. Not only is Vin Diesel sexy and I love his voice but his stunts are really cool and imaginative and it is just a good movie.

XXX is Not Porn

Fast paced energy and beautiful cars. I really loved the movie purely for the entertainment value and nothing more. The most impressive things are the sleak stunts; least impressive are the acting ability of Vin's love interest. She made Vin look like a shakespearean actor and that is pretty hard to do. But all in all, the movie keeps moving and you need little brain power to enjoy it.Read full review...
