good read

Great for fans of mid-60s freee jazz
Rollins work in the "free jazz" arena delivered mixed results. In the case of RCA, I've always suspected he did not have the label's full support. Witness the packaging of Our Man in Jazz. Now, thanks to Complete Village Gate, we get to hear the music as intended.
This new collection corrects RCA's mistake by delivering the full recording session. (One which RCA only cherry picked from.) Now you can hear the full spectrum of Rollins& CO. efforts. Some of it is odd and meandering, but for the most part, it delivers. There are brilliant moments of interplay throughout.
(Oddly, though, the packaging makes numerous references to Our Man in Paris, the famed Dexter Gordon set, while intending to mention the RCA original. This is why copy editors are around.)
As long as you're a fan of mid-60s free jazz, you'll find plenty to like in this collection.
