Satisfactory Replacement of Original Part

My job was to replace missing baffle for 1984 XT600. It was a successful and simple job. The tail pipe inner diameter of my XT600 was 58mm (about 2-1/4 inch.) This item has 2-1/8 outer diameter. The gap was eliminated by using auto tail pipe connector from advance auto parts "Nickson" 2-1/8 ID". The sound is slightly louder than with the original baffle, but significantly muffled compared to the muffler without baffle. There was no change in horse power. In fact, at the first test ride, I had an impression that the engine hesitation at 70 mph with older baffle disappeared. But, this could be an illusion. Need a longer observation.
