Z71 Review
2 of 2 found this helpful Being a huge GM fan, I have always purchased Pontiac/Chevrolet vehicles. The 2002 Z71 Tahoe is a relatively low-price SUV that is very reliable, and has a decent amount of power for towing. The throttle feels a little mushy, probably due to the small 5.3L 295BHP engine lacking torque to move such a heavy vehicle, especially since it's 4wd, and good luck with larger tires and/or a lift. Running 33" tires, and 3.73 gears, gas mileage is affected because it takes more power to keep this monster rolling. It gets around 17MPG on the highway, although after a dyno tune, I am now achieving 20 on the highway, and 14 in town. This particular tahoe deserved the 6.0L LQ4, if not the LQ9 like the escalades. The ride is unbelievable for being a 4wd with "off road" suspension from the factory. Quality is up there, but no bentley. I would definitely recommend this vehicle if you can afford the fuel it swallows!
