Lace Sensors
I know, there are a lot of Strat players that don't care for these pickups. I happen to love the way they sound. My first set was a set of golds that are on a 1989 Eric Clapton Signature Strat that I bought new in '90, and which has been my go-to guitar to this day. A few months back, I had a friend who was looking for his first guitar, but wasn't ready to commit to spending much money on it. As a gift to him, I found on off-brand Strat at a garage sale for $20. It was complete junk, and was literally unplayable. When I plugged it into an amp, it just squealed. I pulled all of the the electronics out of it, cleaned it up a bit, and then put a set of red/gold/blue Lace Sensors in it. After tweaking the setup a bit, I was just amazed at how good the guitar sounded. It was far from my Clapton or American Standard Strats, but it was a $20 guitar with $150 of upgraded pickups, and it sounded really good.
After giving that guitar away, I decided I wanted to do a guitar with the red/gold/blue Laces for myself. Over the past few months, I picked up a very nice MIM Special Edition Strat neck, a MIM Robert Cray signature Strat body, and this pre-wired red/gold/blue Lace Sensor pickguard. The guitar sounds and plays fantastic. It's every bit as fun to play as my Clapton and American Standard. All of the parts were brand new, and my cost was about $714, about half the price I paid for the Clapton and the American Standard.
What I really would like to try is to put this pickup combination into a Strat that has the Clapton boost circuit. That circuit sounds fantastic with the three golds that I have in my Clapton. I would really like to see what the circuit would sound like with the blue in the neck position (which is very bluesy sounding), and the red in the bridge (which is much hotter sounding).
