Craftsman 75 piece Tap & Die Carbon Steel Set Combo w/ Case SAE and Metric NIB
    Jan 12, 2017
Comes out of the same factory as cheaper sets!
My friend got a metric tap and die set from Harbor Freight as a Christmas gift, a week before I bought my Craftsman set with some Christmas money. We happened to compare the two kits, and realized the tap handles were exactly identical, along with other components in the kit. Most tools are Chinese made nowadays, including Craftsman, which used to be American made. The price wasn't terrible, but I still could have paid less to get the same exact thing at Harbor Freight. It's not worth it to spend more for Craftsman anymore - they're just a name now. Even their lifetime warranty is useless, since it doesn't apply to taps and dies. Harbor Freight's lifetime warranty, on the contrary, does! The only advantage this kit has over other Chinese-made ones is the fact that the dies are hexagonal shaped, which means they can be used with a wrench or socket in tight spaces. Not a total waste of money - they'll get the job done, but I learned my lesson about buying modern-day Craftsman tools... no wonder why Sears is going under!
