Rokinon 12mm F/2.0 Ultra Wide Angle Lens for Sony E Mount, Silver

Incredible Lens
2 of 2 found this helpful I wasn't sure what to expect when I first got this lens. I have never used a prime before, and have very little experience with manual focus lenses.
This lens is amazing.
I originally got this because I was interested in getting into astrophotography, landscapes, and architecture. Not only is this lens a perfect choice for any of the three, it is great for photos of animals, people, and even some close-up shots of small things, so long as you are able to get in close and are willing to crop a fair bit. The lens is very, very sharp if you get the focus right, even at f/2, and it sharpens up even more on the edges by f/4. Both the focus and aperture rings are quite smooth and easy to use, with a good level of resistance, and focus is quite easy to achieve, especially on relatively distant objects.
The only negative is that chromatic aberration seems to be somewhat pronounced towards the edges. While it's an easy enough fix, some people don't know how or don't have the programs needed to do so. However, don't let that worry you unless you are going to be zooming in or blowing up the image a large amount along a high-contrast edge. It's still subtle that an uncropped image will have negligible aberration.
Overall, it's an amazing lens, and I have produced many of my absolute favorite photos with it. Sharpness, ease of use, and build quality are incredible, with the only negative being some noticeable chromatic aberration.

Sharp, fantastic for video, great focal range
2 of 2 found this helpful I find this lens to be quite sharp, plenty for my needs. The fly-by-wire zooming takes a little while to get used to, but once you get used to it you can zoom just as well as with a standard lens. The video zoom switch is very smooth. Optical SteadyShot leads to smooth videos even handheld, and sharper photos.
Overall, it's sharp enough for my needs and quite good for both photos and videos. I would have a much smaller lens if you need to be more inconspicuous at an event, and it's kind of heavy, but I would definitely recommend it.
