Absolutely wonderful
I've long admired Jason Robert Brown as a composer, with his work on "Parade" and "The Last Five Years." This album showcases his terrific wordplay, his bouncy, eclectic musical talents and a pretty good singing voice, to boot. "I Could Love Someone Like You" is a hilarious ode to loving Irish women (and a close cousin to "Shiksa Goddess," an equally funny number from "The Last Five Years"). "Someone Else's Clothes" is a smart take on how relationships change people and "Nothing in Common" shows the tender heart common beneath years of sibling rivalry. Brown regularly changes musical paces, with "Music of Heaven" incorporating a gospel chorus and "I'm in Bizness" offering terrific jazz riffs. But as in his show tunes, Brown also weaves soulful ballads, such as "Someone to Fall Back On" and "Long Long Road." For a fan of Brown's music who can't wait for him to get back to Broadway, "Wearing Someone Else's Clothes" is a dynamite way to satisfy your craving.
