Visually out of this world
Blu ray is the only way to watch this movie. I've never seen color used quite like this before, it's a feast for the eyes. I like the strong morals and focus on family bonds, it quite touching. Unfortunately, the acting and story are not at the same level. I especially find the comic relief of the younger brother and chimp to be out of place and not funny at all.
But, again, the visual are so great, that the negatives can be forgiven.

Atmospheric and Twisted
It's fairly easy to see where the plot is leading, right from the beginning. But I would argue that this film is more about what is going on within the characters than what is happening outside.
The set design is gorgeous, looking normal at first glace but seeming off and dreamlike the more you watch. The score is also beautiful, very light feeling in contrast to the darkness throughout the film. The performances are fun to watch, they definitely don't act like "normal" people.
It may not be a masterpiece, but I can't help but love it. If you think you'll like it, you probably will.
