doesn’t read tapes so it can’t record anything

i really like this camera and was super excited to use it, the video quality appeals to my sensibilities and i love the effects it offers. however, the camera can’t seem to read the blank tapes i’ve put into it. it shows a “no tape” and an “eject” icon whenever there is a tape inside, and only shows the “no tape” icon when there isn’t one. this means i can’t record anything at all. i would love to know if here is a way i can fix this and if not, the product should not have been advertised as tested and functional
