Forgotten history
On a winter's day in January of 1932 an assembly of ten local lawmen attempted to apprehend two brothers, Harry and Jennings Young who were holed up at an isolated Missouri farmhouse. The shootout which followed became one of the bloodiest armed encounters in American history involving lawmen and 30's era desparados. When it was all said and done six cops were shot to death and three more were wounded as the brothers made good their escape. More policemen were killed during this incident than any other single incident during the 20th century and would not be eclipsed until the 9-11 tradgedy. Bruce Davis tackles his subject with vigor and the result is this fine book which inches along detail by detail until the brothers are eventually gunned down sometime later. Maps, Photos and diagrams of the scene enhance this gem of a book. Highly recommended for it's retelling of a tradgedy that is all but forgotten American history.

Chuckie Meets Jason
Of all the Chuck Norris movies of the late 70's early 80's this one was easily his best. Chuck wasn't the best actor of his day but when Bruce Lee died the sceptor was passed down to him...and he didn't do a bad job. Silent Rage doesn't suffer from a convoluted or complicated plot (most martial arts movies don't). It's straight action pitting a deranged axe murderer who has been genetically altered to heal instantly from wounds (no matter how ghastly) against the small town marshal who likes to kick ass. Throw in a goofy side kick deputy, a rowdy Biker gang and a shallow love interest and as long as you're not expecting "Gone With The Wind", you'll spend a couple of pleasant hours in front of the tube watching the maniac get shot, stabbed, injected with sulfuric acid and thrown into a deep well....only to come back to give Chucky boy Fits....I liked it and recommend it.

Jed Clampett meets Luca Brazi
Jed Clampett meets Luca Brazi. Who knew that Texas gangsters, who were both colorful and quoteable ,were so violent ? These guys make the mafia look like a bunch of gun shy teenagers. The Texas boys, unlike Mafia hitmen ,didn't waste three weeks or more stalking their prey- they just walked up to them and started blasting away in the middle of a crowded street !...and then they would drive to the police station where they would turn themselves in while screaming self defense. A wink and a nod later from the jury foreman and they were back in business. Sleeper's book tackles the whole gambit from bootleggers who built empires to corrupt cops and politicians with outstretched hands and cotton in their ears. I loved this book !
