Boston Acoustics M25B M-Series 200W 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker - Each (Gloss Black)

Incredible Audiophile sound on a budget
These are gorgeous sounding speakers for $800 and for the $299 a pair I scored them for, a staggering value. Build quality is solid as rock, the best I have even seen for this price. A knuckle rap test on the cabinet rewards you with a solid thunk, like stone. *FYI, I have about 25-30 hours on them so far so they are not even quite yet broken in and should sound even better in the hours to come... Very smooth non-fagging sound that has very decent stereo imaging and gorgeous mid-range naturalness. Set-up properly they have really good bass for a little 5.25 woofer. For full effect, I certainly recommend a tuneful sub-woofer to pair up. Also if you are going for loud listening levels I recommend crossing the low bass out. I am running them digitally crossed at 70ish hrz and this cleared up some congestion and allows them to play much louder with that same very non-fatiguing signature. They are a bit power hungry, a 80watt x2 amp seemed to just run out of gas, especially at room filling volume and dynamics suffered. My over-kill Crown XLS2500 (440watts x2) with the digital crossover set in the high 60's or low 70's drives these speakers very, very well. Set up as such, they sound full, dynamic and able to resolve very complex passages extremely well for this price point. I have them paired right now with the Boston MSubwoofer and really like this sub for music. (I can not comment on movies, this is a music only system). I prefer these to my Renaissance MLP-403.5;s, a respected speaker set that I love. The Ren's are lively, fun and offer nice crisp clarity at low-medium volumes, but are fatiguing for me (I have good/sensitive high frequency hearing). While the vocals sound wonderful, the speakers get pretty shouty at higher volumes. The Ren's base is tight and much deeper/more powerful than the M25's but factor the crossover and sub in and it is basically a moot point. These Bostons just sound sublime and are not even fully broken in yet. I had a pair of Pioneer SP-FS52 around here for a few weeks. These are budget towers that get good reviews for the tiny cash. Well, forget about them with the Bostons on blowout for $300 a pair. The M25's sound better in every single possible way. Running full range they even have significantly more bass (and more tune-full accurate bass) with just a 5.25" woofer than the budget Pioneers have with 3. The Boston M25's are truly good speakers while the Pioneers are budget speakers that don't sound terrible. Anyway... hope this helps!
