A meditative and spiritual 74 minutes

Minimalist British Composer takes a loop of "found sound" a street person in Lond in the early 1970s singing a fragment of a hymn. His voice quavering but resolute; "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet"; through movement and building on tone and sounds Bryars elevates this street urchin's plantive decree into a powerful tome of Faith. In the third movement a saintly voice appears, (played by Tom Waits), In fact I hear an arch-angel of the Lord. Although Saint Thomas of Petaluma could happen on day, you never know about these things! When Tom says it , you know it TRUE! Jesus' Blood has never failed me yet. A beautiful, meditative and spritually uplifting piece. This the fifth copy I have purchased and given away... sorta like an audio Gideon. Peace.

Broadens the appeal !

Most fans of Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys who dig beyond the "greatest hits" compilations will be pleased with the tracking across these four CDs. Early work is represented on Disc 1 with high quality remasterings to make eq consistent with the major studio work. Liner notes and track listing provide personnel rosters from the formative period in this definition of the "Western Swing" genre, really pop music of the day. Truly enjoyable and succeeds in broadening the appeal of Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. Ahhhh haaaa !
