In the Cards

This was a different sort of bellydance video utilizing multiple styles of dance and music to achieve a visually stunning fusion performance worth buying. The concept was based on the 22 cards of the Major Arcana (the cards of higher meaning and significance in a Tarot deck). Each dance was titled after and inspired by the imagery and theme of a particular card, and although not all the cards are represented they addressed most of the best known ones. Many different artists and troupes came together to create this intriguing and well choreographed performance. The costumes are amazing, the techniques are very good, but I feel that some of the interpretations were not quite right. The translation from cards to stage is difficult, and although the common theme was Tarot, the overall feeling was that most of the artists were not sufficiently aware of the meaning behind each card and why the imagery is significant. Overall a very good performance and a nice attempt at something very difficult, conveying the meaning of the Higher Arcana via dance.
