All good, as specced. Has great powers over weather because since we bought it, we've not needed it!

WWII Strategic Bombing described in one 24-hour timeslice
Not a Deighton fan, but this book's the exception - a 24-hour period covering a single (fictional) RAF raid from the perspectives of the aircrew, their ground staff, commanders and families, the German civilians at the receiving end, Luftwaffe radar station, flak ship and night fighter personnel.

Best introduction to geology - for interested laymen or students
If you've ever walked in Scotland or the Lakes, and wondered about the rocks you see, this is the answer to most (if not all) your questions. The latest edition is a standard year 1 university text, and I can see why. This book (and his very similar Essentials of Geology) is a great general introduction to why the earth looks the way it does, lucid, easy to follow and packed with great illustrations. Slightly biased towards US geology and terminology (Marshak's American) but that's a very minor quibble. Covers everything from the early Solar System to how oil and minerals get to be where they are. Can't recommend it enough.
