Supermicro 5015A-EHF-D525 Review
Overall, this is a great product. Due the passive CPU cooling, the system is extremely quiet and has low power consumption. The only reason I gave the system a 4 star rating is because it tends to run hot and I have not found a non-passive cooling option. I have found in some cases the high temperature is due to inappropriately applied thermal paste to the process, however, due to the push-pin style heat sink pins you have to be very careful not to break the pins when removing the heatsink. I own 3 of these units. 1 averages 30C - 35C, while the other two units average 45C - 50C.
This would be a 5 star product if SuperMicro would offer an active cooling solution for the processor and/or a different heatsink attachment setup. Because of the chip pin style attachment for the heatsink and foam ring on the heatsink, I don't know that the heatsink make proper contact with the process to cool it effectively and/or efficiently. Overall, it is just a poor design done because it is cheap from a manufacturer that I expect better from.
