By far the best source of information on the Savage Model 99
This book is by far the best resource book on the Savage 99. It's a fascinating firearm for those who own one. This rifle in one version or another was produced for ninety-nine years. Longer than that if one counts the few 'extras' that were made after commercial production ended.
The quality of the rifles made in the 30's, 40's and 50's is as good as a custom gun of the same era. The many calibers produced, the tapered barrel and the rounded underside of the receiver make this rifle a pleasure to carry while hunting or at the range. These refinements make this gun handle like a Fox, Parker or LC Smith shotgun of the same era. These and many other interesting aspects of this fine rifle are discussed.
This book is also full of technical data such as production numbers by serial number and years of manufacture. The three different factories where this gun was made and their history are also described.
This book is a must have, even if the reader doesn't own a Model 99...yet.

Well worth reading
This is another great book by this author. He's an excellent writer and makes history all the more interesting as he weaves it in and out throughout this narrative.
I'd recommend this book for anyone who intends to travel to Portugal, but read it before you arrive. It will help you reach the right state of mind ahead of time.
