The movie is just plain great! At the face value, it's a riot of laughs with Robin Williams silliness and the emotional ride of the songs and story are hard to top. This is one of the best modern Disney flicks ever made.
If someone were being particular enough to break this movie down moment by moment ethics that arise, you'll find that Aladdin has a good heart, but his one major flaw is that he's lazy about getting a job so that he can feed himself and his friend Abu. Being a thief is the means to justify the ends to be alive with his monkey friend and partner, Abu. ...However, from the perspective of a movie maker, the Disney-powers-that-be needed a character who's humble and down on his luck that he has to steal in order to live. Therefore it's a toss-up on how you want to view the ethics of the main character who is smitten by the beautiful princess Jasmine. Aladdin unknowingly becomes involved with Jafar, which leads him to discovering the Genie (played by Robin Williams), and trouble ensues as Aladdin tries to win Jasmine's heart while still trying to retain face. The variety of ethical dilemmas center around lying to others and to oneself, and that honesty should prevail no matter what. Of course, the other major ethical dilemma is being the bad guy of any movie, and that justice shall have its day. Jafar, the badboy of this movie is a sneaky, conniving & calculating magician who craves the Sultan's throne for power only for selfish gains. Leave it to Aladdin, Abu, the Genie, and an incredible magic carpet to come save the day for everyone!
The reason I bought this is because it's one of my childhood favorites, and I look forward to sharing it with my kids later.
