Provides more information on Desmond Doss whose story was told in Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge. It is an excellent compliment to that feature film.
Great background on true American hero Desmond Doss - subject of Mel Gibson's feature film Hacksaw Ridge. The most positive features are filling in the blanks of his life without dramatic license. It also provides information about his combat before Okinawa which are missing from the feature film (at Guam and Leyte). The more one learns about this extraordinary man the more impressed one is. His feats of heroism and physical endurance under danger and carnage are inspiring and humbling. He paid a severe mental and physical price offset by the knowledge that he saved many lives. Truly inspiring.

Takes you from you den and puts you in the field.
Great book. It takes one outdoors with the writer to where one actually has the feeling of being there. You can almost smell their air and see the views from the rimrock area of the Snake and Columbia River gorges. You almost get tired from hunting the elusive gamebird. One of the best hunting books ever.

Information packed, highly recommended
One learns not only about Ford and the great stars who worked with him (Fonda, Stewart, Wayne, etc.) but of many others as well. Much other information on locations, music, etc. Yes it covers Ford's masochistic tendencies and mistreatment but also has great stories on those like the great Ben Johnson who refused to submit to it. He paid a price but retained his integrity. One also learns of Ford's service to his country in WW2. This was an extremely informative book from one who was there that covers much material one would not expect from one who was originally as western star - son of a great silent film star.
