Monster Party is a fun game, and a great parody of the horror genre
Monster Party is a very strange game released by Bandai for the NES in 1989. You play as a young boy named Mark who is given the quest to save the Dark World from evil creatures by a friendly gargoyle named Bert. Gameplay consists of running around multiple horror-cliche themed levels on a 2D plane, traversing platforms, destroying minor enemies, and defeating bosses to obtain keys to progress to the next level. The bosses range from the expected (Medusa, Mummy) to completely nonsensical (Onion Rings, Shrimp, Eggplant Well). The game is very difficult (definitely an "NES Hard" title) but can be bested with the help a walkthrough and good hand-eye coordination. If you do manage to complete Monster Party, prepare yourself for one of the oddest, most macabre endings in video game history. Monster Party is a funny, solid title for the NES that any gamer who enjoys NES games can appreciate.
