Freddy the Pig series is wonderful
I started reading the Freddy the Pig series when I was in third grade in 1958. For years, I wanted to meet the author, Walter R. Brooks. Ironically, Mr. Brooks died the year I started reading his series. If one lacks imagination, this series will apply a fix. The Freddy series is somewhat analogous to the wonderful, and timeless, Uncle Remus stories.
Now, going back 60 years later, I realize that my reading choices were some of the best things that ever could have happened. My perspective on the series is now filled with nostalgia, and not a little remorse, for days gone by, which the Freddy the Pig series unintentionally evoked.
I love the fact that I have now collected 14 of the 25 books. I hope to infuse my granddaughter with the same awe inspired by a genius of the genre.
