Oldie But a Goodie

Pros: Whether you LARP, play board games, or dabble in AD&D, if you love atmospheric horror with riveting storytelling and great world-building, I would definitely recommend this book. For me it's mainly rooted in nostalgia (thanks to VTM: Bloodlines) and a love for Lovecraftian horror. This book can easily serve to inspire stories or adventures for whatever RPG system you have at home. I personally use VTM's lore while using my own home-brewed RPG system that's strongly influenced by 1st Ed. AD&D. Cons: I never cared too much for VTM's combat and dice system, so you can take it or leave it.

The Movie is Better

I like Updike's beautiful use of prose, but there have been several instances where the female characters feel like they've been awkwardly written by a man attempting to have a female perspective. I've watched the movie, "Witches of Eastwick," and I feel it does a better job portraying women and speaking with a feminine voice. This is definitely a case where the movie is surprisingly better than the book; I'll re-watch the movie but probably won't re-read the novel. Other than that, it was an entertaining read.
