Academic, and pressing the reader to confront issues.
Whatever your theological position is on the matter of martyrdom, suicide and suicide as martyrdom, there are many details which get pushed to the side when discussing such a controversial subject. The book is filled details and many questions which need to be asked, so that the subject matter is not treated in a trivialized manner. The book is not written in a fashion to preach so much as it is to make one ask and answer the hard questions.

Good deal for the buck.
As an Indigenous person was VERY excited about the text. It covers a lot of traditions and methods. For those who understand the spirituality, this will help those of us who only know the basic moves to be able to do more advanced work for ourselves and for ritual purposes. It is also a good book in helping non-Aboriginals to appreciate our handiwork and insights. The book is well done, reasonably priced, and easy to follow.
