Crete Gold PDO Kolymvari Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil Greece 500 ml (16.9 oz)
Mar 27, 2018
Buttery, fine - great with salads
This is my second experimenting with the different varietals and regions of Greek olive oil (with the frequent recommendations of some Greek friends from Crete and Lesbos). I'm no expert in describing the nuances and fine details of the oils, but my first reaction (a taste to my lips) was "buttery", without any of the strong flavoring (good or not) from other varieties I've tried recently. So, for an all-purpose oil (mostly for salad but for some sauteing too) this is quite nice. Product came quickly and beautifully packaged too.

This is THE LP - plus some extras - Essential Doors
What I love is that this recording is faithful to the original LP album, but with the mildew of age removed, and a new clarity/fidelity. Plus the bonus tracks which are, um, interesting in the words and feel, occasionally really good musically, capturing a little different vibe than we're used to. So my first concern - is this the actual live album I knew, and loved, and recorded - was addressed. And I know this for sure: I'd recorded the album from LP to reel-to-reel tape, 20 or 30 years ago (ouch!) and now I played the CD and the reel tape simultaneously, A/B ing to see the similarity and difference. First, there's no tape hiss or LP pop, for better or worse. Secondly the clarity of the mix is quite nice, and it's easier to hear now that this is an ensemble (without a bass or rhythm guitar but with organ and foot pedal and Jim Morrison's voice and sounds). The sounds and applause of the crowds are crystal clear now, and as the bass pedal idles and Morrison is trying to quiet down the crowd, one really feels as if in a great acoustically-balanced concert hall somewhere, watching this unique and powerful band. Secondly (and lastly), it's a good and representative set (compilation), at the time it was released and still, in retrospect and revisiting. For those who really were/are into the Doors and haven't heard these bonus tracks, they're pretty cool, too, capturing some sense of the recording sessions as well as Morrison's, um, poetic side. Costs a bit for an "old album", but it's the real deal, updated for the pleasure of us still enjoying their music in the 21st Century.

The Village Voice: September 20th 2017 FINAL LAST ISSUE Bob Dylan Cover
Oct 17, 2017
End of an Era / Nostalgia / Collectable
Product review? Well, if the product is the new-condition, new news (9/2017), it is a sad product but an important bit of history. The end of an era, the freely-circulating, hip, combination Whole Earth Catalog and local news source for personals, village club schedules, etc. The thick ad-stuffed jumbo papers of yore got skimpy and endangered as ads moved online, along with information, pop stories, etc. And in the end, this last issue available as a "newspaper". (There's still an online entity, but....) If the product - I thought I'd reviewed it - is the seller, this was quickly sent out and perfectly packed - solid and not bent in my apartment mailbox. "All good". Value is subjective. Product is an era going away, with a final cover of Bob Dylan, who was probably the best-ever-known "Village Voice". All good.
