Akai Professional MPC X Standalone Music Production Center with Sampler and...
    May 05, 2021
    If you know, you know
Coming from the MPC 5K which is an amazing MPC (after the update) I craved for something with a little more ease of use and some futuristic features. If you know MPC’s then you will quickly navigate through the basics. There are many changes to the workflow and a quick read through the MPC Bible will guide you to the new way of doing things. There are some new features which seem a bit unpolished and can be extremely frustrating but some updates based on user feedback should clear those things up. Akai (unlike other companies) does respond to user feedback. The pads feel great. Although you must adjust the sensors to your liking. The note repeat sustain can throw you off as it stays on until you turn it off (easily done) this can lead to the perception of lag as you jump to a different sample. Basic stuff I know but I’m sure it will help someone. Midi is frustrating as is. Asigning pads to a slave device is a pain and although I have tried to save the settings I end up having to reprogram everything. The whole procedure to asign the pads on midi notes needs way more work. Maybe I’m missing a shortcut? Seems unpolished. And with multiple midi devices this could get old real fast. The touch screen is great, however in the piano roll going back and forth with the drawing tool and the screen zoom tool is somewhat cumbersome. Ok other than that. MPC X is great. No issues; saving projects, renaming projects, creating new projects, creating templates, importing samples, the q links are just amazing, especially on plug ins. I’ve had this thing for close to 2 weeks so I’m still learning the workflow. Sampling is quick and easy and just pain free as you would expect. I wish it had a battery too but I found a work around. The sound quality is tops, as expected. It is a full on audio interface. I have not messed with the software side of it other than to download and install the 30+GB of material they give you for free. Which I highly reccomend because I think this ends up in the X for use on stand alone mode. I may be wrong but I doubt it. Get you one if you have the scratch and make the music man! Shout out to all those at home trying to make a hit!
