Splendid spectacular by a great director.
This film has about everything: good acting, intelligent script, great production values, scrupulous attention to historical accuracy and marvelous cinematography. Anyone who enjoys great filmmaking will watch it more than once.

A Classi Silent Film, Beautifully Restored
Ten years before William Wellman directed this film about World War One fighter pilots he had been a World War One fighter pilot. He didn't need technical advisors. He could remember. The result is a great action film. By contemporary standards the story line is puerile and most of the characters are wooden, but the battle scenes, in the air and on the ground, appear as authentic as they are exciting, and the period details are a delight.

A Better Dundee
The "new" material in the extended cut provides the information necessary fully to tie together what seemed to be a number of important loose ends in the truncated version. The result is an much better film!
