Great console with a couple weak plastic points
Aside from a configuration item I wish existed, this is a great console. There is a row of blue LEDs on the part you're intended to grab to pull out, which turn on when the console is closed. It's a nice feature, but it'd be nice to be able to turn it off, and there doesn't seem to be an option in the panel OSD menu to do so. The menu is also a little odd, as resolution is hidden as the only option under "advanced".. it would make more sense to collapse and put resolution on the main menu.
The cable management arm is also flimsier than I'd have liked. It's hard black plastic, and the two ends mount to the console and the rail, with five hinges (3 main parts). The hinges are the same plastic, and are very prone to breaking. It takes quite a bit of clever taping to keep them together, but really the cables do that job pretty well on their own anyway. I'd really have preferred at least a metal hinge that won't break after first use.
The plastic casing on the console itself is also a little more flexy than I'd have expected from an enterprise product, but it doesn't show any weak points or signs of breaking/wear. I chalk that up more to cheapening manufacturing for monitors/laptop setups than bad design.
But that aside, the console performs great. The mouse buttons are very tactile, everything works well. The rails also are super easy--they just fit into a standard rack and then a spring latch locks them in place, no screws required, if you don't want them. It's got VGA and USB standard connectors, and also DisplayPort if you've got a server or desktop that's new enough to have those.
I've got it hooked up to a "HP 580646-001 2 x 1E x 16 KVM Switch G2".. which is one of the only KVMs I could find that had explicit compatibility (rack space) listed with any console. I'm not sure why more console manufacturers don't say they're compatible with X size KVM or something.. because what else are you going to use a single output rack console to connect to?
