    HP/ Agilent/ Keysight E3610A DC Power Supply (0-8V/3A, 0-15V/2A)
    May 10, 2021
Great, quiet linear supply! But watch out for bad capacitors and input voltage option numbers!
This is a great bench power supply, especially at today’s second hand prices. But be aware that many (or all) older units from the 90’s have at least one bad capacitor that will need to be replaced to keep it running safely. Specifically, always check C7 and C13 in the bias supply to make sure they’re not leaking. In one unit I own C7 leaked electrolyte that eventually ended up covering over half of the board in a thick, corrosive sludge, eating traces and destroying components as it went. Luckily replacement parts are plentiful and the service manual (complete with parts list and schematic) is easily found online in PDF form. Almost all of the parts in this supply are inexpensive jellybean parts you can buy from almost any component supplier. The only real unobtainium part is the transformer, which takes incoming 100/120/230V AC and converts it to +8V (display), +/-15V (bias), and +13/+20V (output). If this part is bad then you won’t find a new one, short of buying a parts unit to harvest a replacement from. Also critical to note: The E361xA series is not input voltage switchable! The basic (no options) unit is 120V only, and cannot be re-wired or switched to 100V or 240V! If you need a 100V or 230V supply in your region, make sure that the serial number sticker includes the proper option number. 100V = Option OE9 230V = Option OE3 TL;DR: Great power supply. But beware of bad caps and make sure you get the right option for your region’s grid power standards.
