Flaccid and derivative

After its stirring and barbed predecessors, the album stands as a monument to selling out to the lowest common denominator in Western big-label tastes. In it he abandons his commitment to strong, even controlversial messages about the post-colonial African experience and tries to become something much less interesting: a smooth, smiling pop idol. Inane, sappy English lyrics -- the worst one enjoins us to enjoy the sunshine -- replace his earlier songs in the languages of Senegal about the need to fight for self-esteem in a hard world, and a global economy in which the rich get richer and the people of West Africa get poorer. Even his earlier songs on sensual joys have a danceable drive and bite to them, compared to this softheaded and soft-hearted drivel. On the other hand, this album's production values are greatly superior.

Redesign actually improves something!

Great to find this in the adjustable version. Dial works far better than the slider in previous models. Should be a bit bigger though.
