1 of 2 found this helpful I called my gas company because I thought I had a gas leak. They checked my house and found none. They advised that I purchase a carbon monoxide detector. They warned me that there are some detectors that only work for one year. I watched in the buying process for this, this unit claims in the user manual it has a 10 year warranty, which causes me to believe it is good for more than 1 year. I plugged it in near my oven. My dog must have jumped up on my oven and hit the gas knob which turns it on, they have a bad habit of this. I came into the kitchen and found the gas on, with the detector sitting stoically - silently beside the oven, boasting of its great performance... and 10 year warranty. I unplugged it plugged it back in, and it woke up broke it's silence and began to alarm. As if to say "Help! Help! I found a gas leak." It was hard not to feel a little irritated.
