ALICE COOPER - CLASSICKS -HQ- (2 LP) NEW VINYL
    Oct 25, 2021
The Coop Still Gets It Done
Alice Cooper is the greatest hard rocker of all-time. Whether it is his late 60's to the mid 70's work with the original band to his epic solo work starting in 1975 to the present. While many talk about his theatrical performances or get stuck on the 70's hits, every single era rocks and there are great songs on every Alice album. On this Best of compilation entitled "Classicks," the album features some of his best late 80's to 1994 work from the years he was on Epic Records. The songs are hard rocking with that 80's production you would expect and have a hair band sound. However, Alice's great snarling vocals still sound out and have his fun, tongue in cheek dark sense of humor and 1994's The Last Temptation is one of the best albums Alice has ever done. You also get to hear some live tracks which feature some of his classic songs from the 70's as a bonus with the recordings coming from his Trashes the World Tour. If you like Alice tracks like Poison or Hey Stoopid or are a fan of hair metal, this is a good place to start until you can buy Trash, Hey Stoopid, and The Last Temptation. Long live the Coop!
Freedom's Road by John Mellencamp CD & DVD 2007 2 discs Universal Republic NM

    Mellencamp Does It Again
John Mellencamp is one of music's more interesting artist. Mellencamp has always had a problem being called a Heartland Rocker and actually thinks his music is undefined and that is largely true. If you actually do a deep dive of his catalog and not just listen to the radio hits, you will find a diverse artist who has invoked a lot of different styles. In fact, some of his newer albums have become increasingly less rock and more singer-songwriter folk like music. Freedom's Road is an album where you begin to see a change in Mellencamp's writing. Yes this album still has some of his trademark rock sound but you see a big of a change in the lyrics and the songs are a little more personal and at times even political. One could argue "Our Country" is one of Mellencamp's last true anthems intended for the masses and it is a great song. In fact, many of the songs on this album are great and this actually is one of Mellencamp's stronger albums from start to finish.
TORA TORA - BASTARDS OF BEALE NEW CD

Underrated Southern Hard Rockers Still Getting It Done
One of the most underrated bands of all-time are southern rockers, Tora Tora. The band, based out of Memphis, Tennessee, put out a couple of relatively successful albums with Surprise Attack and Wild America. Unfortunately with the rise of grunge around 1993, they were dropped like many other bands from the late 80s-early 90s era. In fact, the third album they released Revolution Day wasn't released until years later due to a lack of a label. Finally that record got released and Tora Tora in recent years have begun to get active again including releasing a few years ago the very good "The Bastards of Beale" album. As is always the case with Tora Tora, the vocals are stellar and the musicianship is excellent. Tora Tora, in actual fact, were always a Bluesy hard rock band and never really a party band. Songs like Son of a Prodical Son have mature lyrics but still plenty of great guitar riffs and the band still contains all four original members. This album is great and flash forward to 2023, they are working on a new album and singer Anthony Corder is putting out some solo Acoustic tracks currently and doing some touring (check out Anthony Corder Official on You Tube for information and to hear some acoustic stuff) with a new hard rock Tora Tora album in 2024 and full band tour. Glad they are still rocking!
