Works with Fountain Pens
Information: Each sheet is labeled on the front as "National Brand" with the National logo. Looks the same as National paper always has. The back of the cardboard stiffener has National Brand labeling and a National Brand product listing. Product label is Engineer's Computation Pad. "Rediform" appears only at the bottom of the stiffener as "Rediform Inc., Coppelll, TX" 75019. Stiffener is also labeled "Made in Brazil."
Review:
Works with fountain pens. Hard, fine textured enough surface that Rapidograph type and fountain pens do not bleed ink spreading out sideways or into the paper. Even with "free flowing" ink. Surface feel with fountain pen is smooth. Occasionally with standard dye ink, slight dark points on backside of paper are occasionally visible in locations where the pen tip paused, but no ink has reached the sheet underneath. A reasonable compromise between surface smoothness, good ink flow and drying time. Not such a hard fine surface that standard dye ink stands on the surface until dry. Iron gall ink probably would.
Some other brands of computation pad that I have tried recently have apparently switched to lower grade paper that causes Rapidograph and fountain pens dye ink to bleed into them copiously, as much it does into standard bulk notebook filler paper.
This paper is also good for gel pens and pencil. Ball points would surely work as well, but not tested.
No felt tips. Felt tip, even "ultra fine" felt tip, quickly bleeds sideways and through this paper. If stationary on the paper an ultra fine felt tip penetrates several sheets in seconds.
It does not claim to be, and is not waterproof. Not particularly water resistant as an outdoor paper. In very high humidity paper absorbs enough moisture from the air that the surface feel changes and fountain pen ink flows a bit more freely into paper. But paper is not weakened and dries completely to original state when back in drier air.
Thickness is typical for see-through grid Engineer's Computation Pad paper.
Tear resistance is good and significantly greater than standard notebook filler paper or inkjet printer paper.
The adhesive at the top releases easily and cleanly when removing a sheet. Adhesive mostly remains with the pad.
