For the price of these pens, my expectations weren't high. I couldn't have been more wrong. Terrific bargain!

Crosspatch
2 of 2 found this helpful My quilting experience started back in 1970, when I was a freshman in high school. All these years I wanted to do another, and was too chicken to try. Silly, really. All one needs to be able to do is follow directions. So when I turned 50 last year, I said to myself, "Just do it!"
I started watching SIMPLY QUILTS on HGTV, (I am not into classes at my local quilt shop) and started to buy books on the subject here on e-bay.
Lerlene Nevaril was a guest on S.Q. one day. She is the author of HIDDEN BLOCK QUILTS. While shopping for this book, I ran across PAIRING UP 2-Block Quilts by Nancy Mahoney and CROSSPATCH by Pepper Cory. It may sound as if the three books are repetitive in subject, but I espically liked the look of L. Nevaril's quilts and thought I would read as much as I could on the subject.
PAIRING UP is a terrific book showing wonderful quilts and their instructions WITH alternate color plans. The directions are simple to follow and success is pretty much a given.
CROSSPATCH is packed with information and shows how to use 2 blocks in a quilt. I like it very much as well, but it was published in 1989 and it is mostly black and white illustrations. If you like to look at the pictures, this isn't the book for you; this is mostly to help plan out your own designs.
HIDDEN BLOCK QUILTS is also a book written with the designer in mind. The instructions for the blocks are similar to compilations of quilt block "bibles" but the directions are for rotary cutting and not templates. It demonstrates well how to use the principles of 2-block designs, and has excellent diagrams and examples, as well as color plates of finished quilts.
Because I hate to just "copy" a pattern, and I have a stash of fabrics "I just couldn't leave on that shelf, so lonely and all...", I like to see ways to use them in patterns that are do-able. I don't want a pattern if I am going to have to go out and spend a fortune for new fabrics.
I do recomend PAIRING UP, and for the actual 2-block concept, I think it is the best of the three to start with. But my favorite is HIDDEN BLOCK QUILTS. It stimulates my own creativity using my favorite traditional block patterns. HH

great product
It is a replacement for the one I had before, I dropped it and that's why I bought this.
It is the best timer, magnet keeps it find-able. And I can hear it unlike the microwave.
