Review of the Athearn SD70ACE
The glue looked like it was put on with a mop. Holes were drilled at offset angles and into or through other components. Wires were not neatly organized. Rather they were stuffed into the shell. And some were pinched against the sides resulting in skinned wires.
After disassembly and re-building, the Athearn design performs nicely. I really wish they would just offer these units as kits. Their factory assembly leaves a lot to be desired. And at the price levels these units are offered, I expect the quality to be higher.
