Finding the right position

Got this rear view mirror for greater safety with a bike trailer I have ordered. Reasonably strong for the price. Too small to fit around the thinnest part of my (22mm dia.) handle bar. I bodged it by using a longer bolt from my toolbox but this is not recommended. No washer provided so the clamp bolt screws up against bare rubber. Shakes a lot at slow speed on a flat road, which makes it harder to adjust and get a good view. Positions tried: 1. Bent over hand, it did not reach far enough to see around my hand and in this position it interfered a bit with selecting my gears. 2. Hanging it downward (below handlebar) did not offer a useable view. 3. Straight up (not bent) leaning 20 degree forward (as shown in picture) shakes the least. Looking between body and inside of right arm, I get a fairly good view of the road behind. Can also see the right knee as it comes up on the pedal and should also see the new trailer, once it arrives. Cant say what works for me, will work for ev'ryone. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ian
