Perfect for carrying around with you & dipping into throughout the day
I love this book, "Poems from the Greek Anthology: Expanded Edition," for many reasons. First, it has a very attractive design and layout. Ann Arbor Paperbacks did a great job of presentation, which is often a main consideration for me when buying a book. But it's what's inside that really grabs me. This brief selection from the Greek Anthology (which consists of thousands of poems, epigrams, inscriptions, et al., in several volumes) gives just a taste of that much longer work. Still, it's enough to give a good idea of what you may be missing should you care to dig further. To cap it off, the translator is Kenneth Rexroth, well known for his capable handling of classic Chinese, Japanese, and modern European poetry. Here, his translations range from "quite literal" to free, as he notes in the original forward, when compared to those done by other hands. They evoke the feel, if not the word-for-word content, of the original Greek. The Introduction to this expanded edition by David Mulroy gives lots more background info about Rexroth and his process, which I find helpful as well. As a book lover, I can say this slim volume is a happy addition to my home library.

5 Classy & Classic Miles Davis CDs
Miles Davis is one of my favorites, and this set included not one but five of his fine albums on the Prestige label (1956-61), with Sonny Rollins and even Charlie "Chan" Parker making appearances. The overall sound quality is very fine, and purchased this set at a bargain price.

"Robots and Empire" - Classic Asimov
I'm an Asimov fan from the get-go. I don't just read his novels & stories, I re-read them, sometimes several times. "Robots and Empire" is one, though, that's gotten by me till now. It's the final installment in his series of robot novels and also features the final appearance of inimitable space detective Lije Baley. Just got it in the mail, so I haven't finished reading it yet, but I can tell you this. The writing is classic Asimov: no frills, witty, fast moving, psychologically taut, with a plot that captured me right off. I also appreciate Asimov's consistent worldview over decades of storytelling (e.g., the settlement of the galaxy by Settlers & Spacers, the role of robots, the technology available), and the fact that women feature prominently in many of these tales. Here, for instance, as in other robot novels, Gladia Delmarre/Solaria/Gremionis (who inherits R. Daneel Olivaw & R. Giskard Reventlov from roboticist Han Fastolfe) is at the center of the plot that will determine how the galaxy will be settled and the fate of planet Earth. Wonderful story. Enjoying it immensely. I think you will too.
