My first hard drive was 20MB partitioned into two 10Mb disks, so having multi-terabyte drives is still amazing. That said, the drive has been working well attached to a W7x64 as a backup device. It's brother sits in a vault and they are regularly switched out. It updates and searches well.
It is too early to comment on longevity as a backup/archive repository, but I have had excellent experiences with Western Digital & Seagate in the past and I have hope that this Seagate will continue in that tradition even though Seagate has reduced their warranty period from 7 years.
