Hit and Miss
Some essays are much better than others. Particularly bad are the ones on Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac, which attempt to tell Lester Bangs-type short stories and fail miserably. By far the worst, though, is the piece by Carmel Carrillo, which fails to even stick to the book's format. If she wasn't one of the book's authors, no doubt her piece would have been left to the dustbin.

New Wave Doldrums
While The Police, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Go-Gos, Joan Jett and a couple other performers are engaging and worth documenting , the vast majority of the acts are of questionable talent at best. If pared down to a half hour or so, this disc would rate four stars. As it stands, stick to YouTube clips and save your dough.
