Excellent server motherboard

This motherboard is an excellent choice for a rock solid server with good performance. It has IOMMU & SR-IOV virtualization support. It also supports the Opteron 6300 CPUs (needs newer BIOS) which have the AES feature for encryption. Since this is an older board, it uses DDR3 memory and a northbridge with PCI-Express (Gen 2) attached, so if you are ultimate performance a newer board will be needed. It also has SATA II (3.0Gbps) onboard controller, but an a SATA III or SAS disk controller can be added if looking for better disk performance. It has an E-ATX form factor which makes it a bit easier to find cases for it, especially when compared to the SSI-EEB form factor of other similar boards.
