4core/8thread performance for cheap
2 of 2 found this helpful I'm a huge fan of this processor for business use and personal use.
Pros:
--4core/8thread performance
--overclocks amazingly
--cheap due to the number of servers that are being decommisioned from this era.
--powerful as heck for use in a personal system but also amazing for custom router/nas/server applications.
Cons:
--45nm chip so it gets a bit toasty with and without overclock
--1156 motherboards for home use that can overclock are expensive
--Only able to use 1333mhz and 1600mhz DDR3 (max 4gb per slot)
--Not higher factory overclock (not this processors fault but i needed one more con to match my list of 4 pros)
If you know what you're doing and or have a 1156 motherboard, I would definitely recommend this processor over the i7-820. Because 1156 Xeon processors were meant for home server use, there isnt a dual socket board for it so most 1156 motherboards natively support them unlike the 771 xeons needing a modified 775 motherboard.
