Castle Creations Thunderbird 36 ESC Speed Control
Apr 03, 2018
Thunderbird controllers are a known quantity and good quality
Thunderbird controllers are what they are. I have several in the 36 size, one that handles 54 amps and I don't know how many of the 18s, 9s and 6s. Castle sold them as modest priced, but good quality ESCs. They are phasing the line out, so I was happy to find a new 36 for sale on E Bay. The limitation on the Thunderbird line is that they will handle either 2 or 3 cell lipos. The trend in electric RC planes is towards using 4, 5, or 6 cell or more LiPo battery packs. The Thunderbird line of controllers simply can't handle the larger cell number, higher voltage packs. But if you are flying a model that uses 2S of 3S packs, the Thunderbirds will work just fine--and will do so for a long time. I have some that are 7 or 8 years old now and still ticking along.
