Excellent Camera - Beware of Potential Lens Problem
The Samsung S85 is a very good camera except for a lurking lens problem. If a tiny bit of particulate matter gets into the extending lens mechanism, the lens will fail to extend. The camera will give three warning beeps and then shut off. I've even seen a low battery warning just before the camera shuts off.
To repair the stuck lens is cost prohibitive.
What I like about this camera is that it has Macro capability - And Also SUPER Macro Mode. It will focus to one centimeter (10mm).
There are several color modes. Standard, B&W, Sepia, Red, Green, Blue, Negative plus Custom Color. It is the Negative function that intrigued me. I have only found the negative function on Samsung cameras. It might exist on other cameras but I have not found any in the price range of the S85 or S730 line of cameras. and the S85 is the only Samsung S model that will focus to one centimeter with a negative function. Can you see the potential here?
You can set up a film negative carrier for 35mm film and shoot your film negatives in the S85 Super macro negative mode and your negative will come out positive. This is a nice feature for me because I can see film negatives in positive form that were never printed, not even to a contact sheet. And I do not have to convert a negative to a positive in the computer. It saves a step.
The Samsung's 8.1 megapixel sensor will give a good facsimile of your film negative. Now that you can see your film negs, you can select the best and if need be scan the best with a scanner for top notch quality.
Be carful when bidding or buying this model because of the potential lens problem. I purchased three of the cameras One will not extend the lens and the other sometimes extends the lens.
Ask questions before buying if you are not sure. When you see an S85 in photos on the eBay make sure it is 'lit up' and that the lens extends and retracts

Never Underestimate the Smaller Sensor Cameras!
1 of 1 found this helpful Never underestimate the power of the smaller sensor camera!
The Z700 is easy to use. The on-screen menu is easy to use. The camera is automatic. One has a degree of exposure control by using the EV compensation if needed.
The camera has Macro capability to 4 inches.
Colors are vibrant and true.
The Z700 is an all round excellent shooter. If you like Black & White prints, switch to Black and White mode. You can get great results by printing B&W pictures on a powder printer to place into an album.
You can obtain prints up to 8X10 size, color or B&W.
I've include one Macro photo that I took with the Z700. 1/45 of a second handheld.
The camera is retro styling, pretty cool.

Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men
I believe that some camera models were engineered from industry wide plans. Meaning other camera manufactures have very similar internal electronics and schematic sameness.
This Olympus Model to me is a failure of parts quality control and/or engineering. My Olympus Sp-560UZ has horizontal electric lines running through the display, as did my Konica Dimage7. The lines will transfer to the final digital photo. Both cameras exhibit the half camera look.
I do not recommend this camera model.SP-560UZ.
To be fair Olympus has many fine models but not this one.
