Magellan GPS color trak
Upon Unpacking the Magellan GPS color trak the first thing I noticed was the weight, Its pretty heavy for a hand held unit also the screen is long and narrow
, not a problem just looks a bit strange. The 30 hours run time shown on the battery meter wasnt even close as after about an hour on a new set of lithiums it was down to 19 hours. I was fairly impressed with its ability to aquire and hold signals inside the car. This unit was the first to have a color display but it really is of no practical use because it lacks mapping, I would guess that it was just a marketing thing everybody wants to be the first to offer something. performance was good on all functions and features. controls are easy to use and spaced out enough to use with gloves.
overall it is a good performer with a rugged and solid feel.some of the lighter colors are hard to see in daylight and the backlight is a bit on the dim side.If you need a simple reliable GPS and dont want or need a lot of bells and whistles these can be had used for 25$ or so.
