    Alpine KTP-445a Power Pack
    Jun 02, 2020
    KTP-445a - Attached to Non-Alpine Radio
I have a first gen KTP-445a (non adjustable gain and no high pass filters) that powers a Sony XAV-AX3000 head unit. You can use any of the KTP amps with any head unit (even pre-2005 Alpine units) as long as you don’t mind cutting the input connectors on the amp and your head unit and connecting the wires manually. This is the third one I’ve owned (only one of which I used a compatible Alpine head unit) and the first one without the gain adjustments. As other reviews stated, this amp is powerful and will make your stock speakers come to life. I was worried that without the gain adjustments and with stock speakers that I’d barely be able to turn up the head unit without it being too loud, but it’s not the case. I wasn’t worried about not having a high pass filter because most head unit have them anyway, and I plan on using full range speakers instead of subs. The stock speakers sound much better than before and it’s not overpowering. However, it is as loud as you’d ever want to listen.

Alpine CDA-9825 - Decent, but there's better radios out there.
I installed the Alpine CDA-9825 in my 04 Honda Accord a few days ago. It is connected to factory 6.5" speakers in the front, aftermarket Kicker 6x9" speakers in the rear, as well as a subwoofer. I bought an older Alpine deck because they are known for their impeccable sound quality and reliability. The Good: The radio has excellent volume, and brings a full sound, depite only having 18x4 watts rms power for deck speakers. I once owned a newer model Alpine head unit that was connected to an Alpine KTP-445 head unit power pack that raised the power of the deck to 45x4 watts rms. This sounds as loud, if not as clear, as that radio combination. I also have a full speed aftermarket iPod connector that allows me to control the iPod through the Ai-net port on the back of the radio, and provides excellent sound quality. The 4 volt subwoofer pre-amps also allows me to dial back the amount of power needed from my subwoofer amp, and sounds amazing. Of course it plays CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3 cds. The Not-So-Good: The head unit is not as user friendly to change playlists, choose songs, and shuffle music as other decks I've used. I would have also wanted more adjustments for the deck speakers as well. It has basic bass and treble adjustments, as well as frequency filters, but I would like to have high and low pass filters, and mid level adustments as well. Also, trying to find a full speed Ai-Net iPod connector is difficult, and usally not cheap. I was lucky and got one for $22, but look to spend about $85 for a full speed unit that you can can control from the head unit. Also, you can't connect anything else, like an XM adapter, if your iPod is connected. Overall: I'm happy with my purchase, and since I only paid $100 for it, I can't complain too much. If you are looking for a quality deck with decent sound, and are using stock speakers, this may be your deck. If you are an audiophile, keep looking.

    Polk Audio DB6500 Component Speakers
I decided to purchase this component set to replace my factory 6 1/2" speakers in my Hyundai Elantra. My subwoofer was much louder than my stock speakers, som it was time to upgrade. I chose Polk Audio because of their reputation for clarity, sensitivity (did not want to amp my door speakers, just use aftermarket deck) and high level of performance. I also chose this set because they are marine certified (most car doors let moisture through, which can damage speakers). I was skeptical at first, the woofer seemed to be made of a paper-like material (DB6501 are made of a different material), however, after installed, they definatly outperformed my stock speakers. I had Circuit-City install them, and it took about 3 hours. The only other experience i have with aftermarket speakers are the JVC speakers i have in my rear deck, and these outperform those hands down. My only complaint is that mid-bass is not quite as deep as I would like it, but it may be because my speakers are not amped. Overall, I would recommend Polk Audio to anyone thinking about upgrading their factory speakers, and I will purchase a second set for my rear deck in the near future.
